Trekking the M’goun Massif: Discover the Authentic Heart of the High Atlas
Rising to a majestic 4,068 meters, the M’goun Massif is the second-highest peak in the Atlas Mountains and the undisputed “Roof of the Central High Atlas.” Unlike the heavily trafficked routes of Mount Toubkal, M’goun offers a wilder, more authentic, and deeply rewarding trekking experience.
Characterized by massive peaks, dramatic high cliffs, and vast, beautifully cultivated valleys, this region is a haven for hikers seeking tranquility and genuine cultural immersion. Guided by expert local mountain leaders and supported by traditional mule caravans, a trekking adventure in the M’goun region is a journey into the true, untouched soul of Berber Morocco.
Why Choose the M’goun Trekking Experience?
- The “Roof” of the Central High Atlas: Conquer the 4,068m summit of Jebel M’goun, enjoying panoramic views that stretch across the rugged mountain ranges and deep valleys below.

Trekking Difficulty & Logistical Support
We believe in making high-altitude trekking accessible and enjoyable. Our programs are categorized into three levels to match your fitness and experience:
- Easy: 4 to 5 hours of walking per day.
- Medium: 5 to 6 hours of walking per day.
- Supported/Challenging: 7 to 8 hours of walking per day.
Luggage Support: You will not need to carry heavy packs. All main luggage and camping equipment are transported by experienced muleteers and their sure-footed mules, allowing you to hike comfortably with only a light daypack (water, snacks, camera, and an extra layer).
Practical Trekking Tips
- Fitness Level: A good level of physical fitness is required for all our treks, along with sturdy, broken-in hiking shoes with good ankle support.
- Best Time to Go: While the Rose Valley can be trekked year-round, the higher altitude M’goun summit and Central High Atlas routes are best experienced from May to October, when the mountain passes are clear of snow and the weather is stable.
- What to Pack: Layered clothing (temperatures drop significantly at high altitudes), a waterproof windbreaker, sun protection (hat, sunglasses, high-SPF sunscreen), trekking poles, and a 20-30L daypack.
